Montclair School Budget Approved With Tax Increase: Reports
The Montclair Public School District's 2019-2020 budget got a thumbs-up.
MONTCLAIR, NJ — The Montclair Public School District’s 2019-2020 budget got a thumbs-up during the Montclair Board of School Estimate (BoSE) meeting last week.
The BoSE adopted a $128.32 million budget with a $118.2 million tax levy for the upcoming school year at its April 4 meeting. The average Montclair homeowner with a property valued at $626,135 will see a 2 percent increase – about $206 – to the school portion of their local taxes, Montclair Local reported. The budget initially called for reductions of 10 full-time teachers, 10 full-time one-to-one paraprofessionals, four kindergarten paraprofessionals, a district coordinator, a district director and a full-time secretary, Baristanet.com reported.

At the April 4 BoSE meeting, Montclair Schools Superintendent Kendra Johnson said that the district was able to reduce the number of full-time teacher cuts to four, with the understanding that there would be additional breakage. Johnson also said that the 10 one-to-one paraprofessionals would be hired back, and that the budget now restores four part-time kindergarten and the district director positions, Baristanet.com reported.
