Montclair Sees Rash of Garage, Shed Burglaries and Thefts

Nine thefts, burglaries or attempted burglaries involving Montclair garages and sheds took place last week, police say.

Montclair, NJ – Was your garage or shed broken into last week, Montclair?

You’re not alone.

According to the Montclair Police Department, nine thefts, burglaries or attempted burglaries involving local garages and sheds took place from March 14 to March 18.

Police stated that the following incidents were reported:

  • 3-14-2016 (High Street) - Theft of a bicycle from a detached garage. No sign of forced entry.
  • 3-15-2016 (High Terrace) - Attempted burglary to a garage. A lock was removed to gain entry. Nothing was taken in this incident.
  • 3-15-2016 (High Terrace) - Attempted burglary to a garage. A window was removed in an effort to gain entry. Nothing was noticed missing.
  • 3-15-2016 (High Street) - Burglary to a garage. A red moped was stolen in this incident. Entry was gained by breaking windows in the garage door.
  • 3-15-2016 (Nishuane Road) - Burglary to a garage. Entry was gained by removing a window, and its frame. A bicycle was taken.
  • 3-16-2016 (Harrison Avenue) - Theft of a bicycle from a residential garage. Access was gained by cutting off a lock.
  • 3-18-2016 (Willowdale Avenue) - Burglary to a detached garage. The rear door appears to have been kicked in, to gain access. A bicycle was taken.
  • 3-18-2016 (Willowdale Avenue) - Attempted burglary to a garden shed. Nothing was reported missing in this incident. The shed in question was unlocked.
  • 3-18-2016 (Franklin Avenue) - Attempted burglary of a garden shed. Access was gained by smashing some trim off the entrance door. Nothing was noticed missing.
