Montclair Shelter Saves Mother Cat, 'Ice Cold' Kittens
A desperate race against the clock to warm three frozen kittens ended with sighs of relief at the Montclair Animal Shelter.

Montclair, NJ – Staff at the Montclair Animal Shelter came to the rescue of a mother cat and several kittens on Wednesday after discovering the feline abandoned in a wooden donation box.
The municipally run shelter shared the rescue story via social media, thanking its volunteers and staff for their quick actions that may have helped to save the animals’ lives.
“A cat was abandoned in our wooden donation box sometime overnight,” the shelter posted. “When our volunteers opened the box to put away donations, they found mom and what appeared to be three still born kittens.”

The shelter rushed the mother feline to their tech room for an exam, taking the three apparently dead kittens with them. But when examining the kittens, staff noticed that one “appeared to twitch.”
This twinge of hope set off a frenzied attempt to warm the three “ice cold babies” with heating pads and warm fleeces, the shelter wrote.

Shelter staff even held the kittens in their armpits to help warm them up, rubbing them to improve their circulation.
Their efforts paid off… within 20 minutes, the mother delivered two more kittens.
Shelter staff also succeeded in reviving the three other kittens, who were soon “warm, squeaking and looking for mom.”
