Montclair Teachers Union Wants New Contract For Educators

Members of the Montclair Education Association blasted the lack of a work contract between the district and its teachers at a BOE meeting.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Dozens of impassioned community members showed up at the Montclair Board of Education meeting on Monday, several of whom were there to bring light to the ongoing contract situation between the district and its teachers.

Members of the Montclair Education Association (MEA) were present at the April 15 meeting. Among their concerns was the lack of a work contract between the union and the district, a situation that’s been going on for 288 days, Baristanet reported.

Specific MEA grievances included “less take-home pay for teachers, cutbacks in maternity leave that go from generous one-year absences to the bare minimum of leave set by state law, and diminished health benefits,” Baristanet reported. (Read the full article here)
