Montclair Town Council Member Resigns, Report Says
Carmel Loughman has resigned as a council member, a report says. She was elected in 2024: here's who came in third-place that year.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — A member of the Montclair Town Council has resigned just a year into her term, a report says.
Carmel Loughman told Montclair Local on Saturday that she has resigned from the council.
“All I wish to say is that I wish my council colleagues well as they grapple with the difficult issues the town faces,” Loughman said.

Loughman was elected as a councilor-at-large in the 2024 election, which also saw a victory for Susan Shin Andersen. Former council member and mayor Robert Russo came in third.

Russo told Patch that he isn’t seeking the seat, but has sent a message to council members saying that he is available to serve out Loughman’s unexpired term.”
