Montclair Vehicle Crimes: Snow Shoveler, Stolen Car, Smashed Window

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Three vehicle-related crimes were reported in Montclair on the same day last week, authorities announced Tuesday.

The Montclair Police Department released the following details about each incident:

January 16 (Gordonhurst Avenue) – A resident told officers that he started his car to warm it up and was shoveling snow from his walkway, when he was alerted by a family member that someone was in his vehicle. He stated he ran towards his car and saw someone exit the driver’s seat and flee towards the street. The suspect then entered a small, white SUV which fled west on Gordonhurst Avenue and then south on North Fullerton Avenue. The suspect was described as a teenaged male, wearing a dark ski mask and dark-colored clothing.

January 16 (Valley Road) – Between 8:30 and 10:30 p.m., four parked vehicles were entered in the parking lot of Tierney’s Tavern. The suspect(s) entered the vehicles by shattering the rear driver or passenger side window. The suspect vehicle appeared to be a newer model SUV, possibly a BMW. The vehicle also appeared to be dark in color. The items missing ranged from cash, laptops and clothing items.

January 16 (Stonebridge Road) – A homeowner reported that after waking up, he discovered his 2022 BMW X7 was stolen from his driveway. The suspect(s) were able to enter the home through a first-floor rear window, where they located the keys in a foyer area. The unoccupied vehicle was located later in the day in Lyndhurst.
