Montclair Woman Shot In Buttock, Senior Citizen Arrested: Police
A bystander told Montclair police that they heard a "popping sound" and a woman screaming on William Street.

Montclair, NJ – A 75-year-old local man has been accused of shooting a Montclair woman in the buttock after an argument on Sunday.
According to the Montclair Police Department, officers received a call from a bystander around 1:05 a.m. who reported that they heard a “popping sound” and a woman screaming on William Street.
On arrival, responding officers found a 51-year-old Montclair woman in an apartment suffering from a single, low caliber gunshot, police stated.

The suspected shooter - Edward Thompson of Montclair – had left the scene by the time police arrived, authorities stated.
Emergency responders transported the victim to Saint Joseph’s Hospital, where she was treated for a non-life-threatening injury and remains in stable condition, police stated.

Thompson voluntarily surrendered himself to police on Sunday around 10:35 a.m.
The alleged assault appears to have occurred during an argument between Thompson and the victim, according to police.
Authorities charged Thompson with aggravated assault with a weapon, possession of a handgun, and possession of a firearm for unlawful purpose.
He was held on $100,000 bail.
