N.J. Restaurant Employee Slices Co-Worker With Meat Cleaver: Police

Police say the incident began with an argument between the two restaurant employees.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Bloomfield police arrested an employee at a local Chinese restaurant last week after he allegedly attacked another worker with a meat cleaver, authorities say.

According to the Bloomfield Police Department, officers were dispatched to the No. 1 Chinese Restaurant on Bloomfield Avenue on Aug. 26 on a report of an argument between two employees. On arrival, the officers found one worker suffering a minor injury from a meat cleaver-inflicted cut to the neck.

EMS responders treated the victim at the scene, authorities said.

Authorities said that the alleged assailant, Kwei Dong Yang, 46, of Bloomfield, left the restaurant prior to officers’ arrival, but later turned himself in to police headquarters after detectives managed to contact him.

Police charged Yang with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
