NJ Transit: Monday Storm May Cause Tuesday Delays
Officials: NJ Transit saw "major impacts" along the Northeast Corridor and the North Jersey Coast Line due to a downed power line in Linden.

The storm-related damage from Monday may end up causing some NJ Transit commuters delays on Tuesday if Amtrak crews can't restore the signal system in the Linden area in time, authorities said.
NJ Transit issued an alert late Monday evening about possible delays on Tuesday, Jan. 24.
"NJ Transit rail operations has seen major impacts to its schedule along the Northeast Corridor and the North Jersey Coast Line due to a downed PSE&G wire in Linden which took several tracks out of service," NJ Transit officials wrote. "Amtrak personnel worked to clear the wires as quickly as possible, however power was lost to the signal system forcing trains to proceed at dramatically reduced speed through the area. This resulted in numerous trains being delayed at both Newark Penn Station and New York Penn Station with significant crowding at stations along that route."

NJ Transit officials added:
"While Amtrak crews are working to restore the signal system in the Linden area, if work is not completed before the morning peak period, customers may experience delays due to significantly reduced speeds through the impacted area."

In addition, the NJ Transit Light Rail system experienced sporadic delays due to a downed tree, and bus operations were slowed in various locations due to heavy rain and traffic conditions, officials stated.
"The status of the system may change as the storm progresses," the agency stated. "NJ Transit will continue to monitor the weather conditions and impacts to the morning rush hour will be determined over the next several hours. Customers should continue to check our web site at www.njtransit.com where they can sign up for service alerts as well as monitor social media channels and broadcast, web, and print media for additional updates."
