NJ Transit Worker Suspended; ICE Denies 'Agents On Train' Claims
NJ Transit suspended a crew member after claims emerged that ICE agents were seen aboard one of its trains on Monday.

NJ Transit suspended one of its crew members after allegedly faulty claims emerged that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents were seen aboard one of its trains on Monday. ICE stated that no operations were conducted on NJ Transit's trains that morning.
A NJ Transit rider posted the following message on Twitter on Monday morning:
“Hey @GovMurphy why are there ICE Agents on my @NJTRANSIT train this morning "looking for illegals"? Does this train to go NYC or 1930's Berlin?”
NJ Transit replied to the Tweet with the following question:

“Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Were you on the 6:54 a.m. out of Bayhead, train #3326? We are trying to clarify the train number.”
An ICE spokesperson told Patch that the agency was not involved in any activity on NJ Transit Monday morning.
"ICE does targeted enforcement, not sweeps, and doesn’t board public transportation as a rule, unless they’re in pursuit of someone," the spokesperson added.

NJ Transit officials provided the following statement to Patch about the incident:
"NJ Transit has taken swift action by immediately suspending, without pay, the crew member who made the alleged train announcement pending the outcome of a full investigation. NJ Transit will not tolerate such reprehensible conduct which stands in direct contrast with our agency’s culture."
No further information was immediately available.
