NJ Transit Train Hits Teen Near Montclair Railroad Crossing

A train on the Montclair-Boonton line struck and injured a 15-year-old male near a railroad crossing, authorities said.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — A NJ Transit train struck and injured a teen near a railroad crossing in Montclair on Wednesday, authorities said.

Montclair-Boonton line train #6299 struck and injured a 15-year-old male who was allegedly trespassing at the Jerome Place grade crossing in Upper Montclair at 12:30 a.m., according to NJ Transit spokesperson Lisa Torbic.

Emergency responders transported the teen to St. Joseph’s Hospital with unspecified injuries, Torbic said.

The train had departed Penn Station New York at 11:42 p.m. and was scheduled to arrive at Montclair State University at 12:33 a.m. Montclair-Boonton Line rail service was not impacted due to this incident, as the #6299 was the final train of the day. There were no injuries to the two passengers or the crew on board, Torbic stated.

NJ Transit police are investigating the incident, authorities said Thursday. No additional information was immediately available.
