MONTCLAIR, NJ — Felled trees and downed power lines contributed to a rocky commute for train riders this week on NJ Transit’s Morris & Essex line and Montclair-Boonton line.

Heavy rain, severe thunderstorms and potential flooding were all predicted for Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, as Tropical Storm Debby works its way up the coast. Read More: Tropical Storm Debby: Latest Forecast For NJ Impacts

Essex County is under a flood watch and a Hazardous Weather Outlook through Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

The wicked weather took down some trees and power lines on the Morris & Essex line on Tuesday, according to NJ Transit, which shared some photos of the damage (article continues below).

NJ Transit suspended service on the line in both directions on Tuesday evening to clean up the mess. Multiple trains were canceled due to the loss of power.

Service on the Morris & Essex line resumed with delays on Wednesday morning. NJ Transit also reported that “mechanical issues” were contributing to the ongoing delays.

“Weather-related equipment availability issues” also caused delays and cancellations on the Montclair-Boonton Line on Tuesday evening.
