Parents Who Rock To Host Full Day Of Music

Alma Schneider's group Parents Who Rock will host a full day of music and other activities for families across Montclair.

Parents Who Rock—a group of musicians and others who volunteer their time and talents onstage and behind the scenes to raise money for non-profit organizations—will hold a full slate of music and family activities on Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. at 72 High Street.

The annual outdoor music festival is a free event that will feature great music as well as fun activities for kids. Bands will be playing roughly 15-minute sets. For the full schedule of performances go here.

For kids, Aunt Jean’s Toys and Treats will sponsor face painting from noon to 2 p.m. Lotus in Action will be doing yoga for kids from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. And Ahava Felicidad Hair and Body will be giving temporary hair and feather extensions from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

In addition, there will be raffles: School of Rock will be raffling a gift certificate for two month’s of tuition for any of their programs—worth up to $650. PWR will also be raffling off a brand new electric guitar.

Several vendors will be on hand. Stella and Dot Jewelry will be selling both jewelry and its new handbag line, which the business describes as "affordable luxury," manufactured in the same factories as Coach, Kate Spade, Burberry and Prada. Maria Koch Jewelry will also be at the fest, selling handmade designs.

This year, Parents Who Rock will be honoring soundman extraordinaire, Ed Carine, who hauls the sound equipment, sets it up, and serves as sound technician at most PWR shows. He also helps run Terry's Serendipity Cafe, which provides a creative outlet for Montclair teens. The event will be collecting donations for Terry's in honor of Carine.

The event will also be collecting non-perishable food donations to help local food pantries, whose supplies have been depleted after a long, difficult summer. So please bring a can or two to donate.

Remember to pack a picnic basket with food and drinks and bring your own blanket and some lawn chairs. Raindate is Saturday, September 17.

Last year, a similar Parents Who Rock event attracted dozens of families who were treated to a full day of music from musical groups made up of parents from around the community.
