Norman Cantor of West Orange sent us this thought-provoking photo taken at Eagle Rock Reservation in late July.
“The photo pulls together the bittersweet privilege of having the 9/11 memorial at the top of the mountain in the Eagle Rock Reservation,” wrote Cantor. “It brings back the horror of that day and yet includes the comforting and respectful memorial to those lost to a moment of hatred.”
“It looks considerably more peaceful now than it did when I went to that vantage point at the Eagle Rock Reservation the morning of 9/12/2001 to see the cloud of dust and smoke that would linger over lower Manhattan like a malevolent shroud for days on end,” added Cantor. “It would prove to be a healing pilgrimage over the next decade and more, particularly once the memorial was created there.”
