MONTCLAIR, NJ — A potential plan to repair stairwells and remove asbestos at Montclair High School is raising the ire of some parents, a report says.

In September 2018, a stairwell collapsed at the high school. While no students were injured, it set off a series of events and probes that eventually resulted in plans to do significant renovations at MHS.

But a proposed plan for the repairs – which would potentially slash instructional time and force kids to sit through three hours of study hall a day – isn’t sitting well with some parents, NJ.com reported. (Read the full article here)

The draft plan would only affect the final 24 days of the school year; work would begin May 20. All students will be relocated to the freshman building, NJ.com stated.

“It’s going to be really difficult for students to remain motivated and enthusiastic in this environment,” one parent told NJ.com.
