‘Rifle-Carrying’ Men On Montclair-Boonton Line Were Just Shooting A Movie: NJ Transit Police

Were you shooting a film near the Montclair-Boonton train line on Aug. 8? Give the police a call.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — A group of three men allegedly seen trespassing on NJ Transit’s Montclair-Boonton line last month – one of whom was carrying a what appeared to be a rifle - were probably just shooting a movie, authorities say.

According to the NJ Transit Police Department, the engineer operating train #6242 on the Montclair-Boonton line reported that he saw three men trespassing near the Glen Ridge Interlocking between the Bay Street and Glen Ridge Stations around 3:08 p.m. on Aug. 8.

The engineer reported that one of the men was wearing camouflage military fatigues and carrying what appeared to be a rifle or replica weapon, and another was carrying what appeared to be a professional-looking video camera, authorities said.

“These individuals may not have been engaged in criminal activity, but were filming a video and may have been unaware that they were trespassing,” police stated in a news release. “The NJTPD Detective Bureau is asking anyone involved or with knowledge of this incident to come forward. If the subjects involved come forward, no criminal charges will be sought by the New Jersey Transit Police once confirmation of a video / movie project has been established.”
