The Montclair Fund for Educational Excellence (MFEE) is once again hosting the tastiest fundraiser in town: Sabor Montclair on Saturday, Oct.28. Sabor Montclair celebrates the unique “sabor” that our Latinx community members bring to Montclair. Familias who are part of MFEE’s programming have helped design this event which features takeout meals that highlight their culture and family stories.

Here’s how it works: Donate and reserve your meal. On October 28, come to the Unitarian Church at your reserved time, and pick up your dinner. MFEE volunteers will bring the food right to your car, so you don’t need to find a parking spot. Or pay extra for delivery! Then sit down with your family, and enjoy a fabulous meal at your home, designed and cooked by some of our newest Montclair neighbors.

Until recently, these families and students have been navigating Montclair schools on their own. In systems that operate almost exclusively in English, non-English-speaking parents in Montclair face many barriers to meaningfully engaging and supporting their children. Students face barriers to accessing the education and fundamental resources to which they are entitled.

In just two years, MFEE's Navegadores Escolares program has supported over 80 families and 115 children. MFEE now runs two bilingual afterschool programs, Oruguitas and Entrenadores Escolares, to provide academic and social support. Additionally, MFEE provides digital literacy classes to families, hosts an early literacy music class, runs a girl empowerment group, and holistically supports families to address health, food, employment, and education needs.
