Standout Defender Helps Propel MKA Girls Lacrosse

Montclair resident Grace Fitzgerald has continued to be a big boost to the strong defense for the Montclair Kimberley Academy girls lacrosse team this spring season.

The junior defender entered recent action with 10 ground balls for the 4-4 Cougar laxladies who are the 2-time defending Non-Public B state champions.

"Grace is a strong presence on defense for us and joins teammates Debbie Giddins, Julia Flocco and Caroline Cuneo as an experienced and talented foursome in front of our goalie Ella Freeman," said first-year head coach Kristen Dawes. "It's reassuring with the graduation losses from last year's state championship squad that our defense has a very good group of veteran players we can rely on."

MKA was coming off a strong 8-4 victory at West Essex on Monday, April 21, and earlier in the month had defeated neighboring rival Montclair High, 12-4.

During the fall Fitzgerald excels for MKA's outstanding field hockey team which won the 2024 prep B tournament championship.
