What's on offer, sweets-wise, during the holiday season
One of the (many) great things about Montclair living are the area bakeries, especially at this time of the year. From seasonal spices to fun decorations, bakeries around town toast the winter holidays with specialty items including cupcakes, French holiday cakes, and—of course—cookies.

Gina's Bakery, 110 Walnut Street, Montclair, 973-233-1010—This Walnut Street favorite is finalizing its holiday menu but, in the meantime, you can count on Buche de Noel, a French holiday cake shaped like a fallen log, a Triple Coconut Snowflake Cake, and a selection of pies.

Nicolo's Italian Bakery and Deli, 6 Baldwin Street, Montclair, 973-746-1398—Nicolo's doesn't really get going with their special holiday items until the week before Christmas when they will be open every day. Then, in addition to special savory items like prosciutto bread, the bakery will also sell Strufella. This glistening tower of honey-soaked balls of dough is only sold at this time of the year and costs about $9.99.
The Pie Store, 100 Watchung Avenue, Montclair, 973-744-4424—The Pie Store boasts made-from-scratch classics like individual Mince Pie, Chocolate Mousse pie, Cranberry Apple pie, and that classic from the other side of the pond, Christmas Sherry Trifle. There is also a Turkey and Cranberry soup to warm you up before the mince pie. The Christmas menu has been available since December 10. Call the store for details.

Panera Bread, 15 Bloomfield Ave., Montclair, 973-233-170—This Bloomfield Avenue chain offers its Holiday Petits, which are decorated shortbread cookies and a gingerbread cookie during the holiday season.
Marlboro Bakery, 133 Grove Street, Montclair, 973-783-1950—Marlboro offers a lot of buttery holiday cookies at this time of the year. Call the store for more specific information on what's in their cases.
Cupcake Stop Bakery, 1 Greenwood Avenue, Montclair, 973-744-2400—This bakery sells that darling of the sweet set, cupcakes. In addition to a regular rotating menu, for the holidays there are four special flavors; Eggnog Spice; Candy Cane; Coconut Snowman, and Chocolate Snowflake. Each cupcake is $2.50.
