Things we did: A day at the museum
Montclair Art Museum provides a fun weekend outing for families

As some of you may know, Bank of America / Merrill Lynch offers free admission to the Montclair Art Museum for cardholders on the first Sat & Sun of each month. Loving a good deal, and never tiring of the coupons or freebies that so many family-friendly businesses seem to offer these days, J and I brought the kids for an afternoon of local culture.
Local isn’t exactly the right word, though the museum is dedicated to American and Native American Art. S & A have been as exposed to art as any other kids, and our nanny is super great about taking them on field trips when the occasion arises, so it was no surprise that they were both patient and excited to be in a museum. Though museum things, especially large chunks of text, are often relegated in their minds to the space of “adult things”, both took interest in the art and really seemed to enjoy picking a favorite.
As a family, we have an historic museum game, in which each person in the group has to choose which painting in a set space represents them the best. S decided to spice it up and have us a pick a painting for one another. (A exclusively picked depictions of animals.)
