Visions For Vacancies: What Should Move To 107 Watchung Ave.?

Already, Watchung Plaza has a whole host of lovely shops and restaurants

Forget what zone it's in, ignore setback regulations, dump lot coverage rules, and all the other zoning jargon that puts people most to sleep. If you had your way, what would you like to see there? We launched this new occasional feature a few weeks ago by focusing on the now vacant spot at 622 Valley Road in Upper Montclair, the former home of Five Guys Burgers and Fries.

Sugee Owner Amy Rusby announced in December that the popular store would close at the end of January. Indeed, she wrote on Sugee's Facebook page, "our lease is up. We will continue to sell awesome stuff online and at events/cons as always. Thanks to everyone who supported us over the past 3 years!"

Sugee had long been a well-loved spot for area kids seeking Japanese-inspired items. Kids often had gathered there to sell their own handmade items, plus participate in art contests and watch anime screenings.

Currently the store's windows are covered in newspapers.

The location sits between Sushi Koshi and and is not only close to restaurants but is also near a women's clothing store.

So what should go into the former Sugee space? Another restaurant? A retail shop? Something else? The good news is that there's plenty of parking nearby and the spot enjoys a lot of foot traffic.
