Visions for Vacancies: What Should Move to 30 South Park St.?

This occasional column offers the community a chance to tell us what you think would fit best in a vacant property in town. 

All possibilities are on the table. We ask you to forget what zone it's in, ignore setback regulations, dump-lot coverage rules, and all the other zoning jargon that puts most people to sleep. If you had your way, what would you like to see there? What would be the best use for the community?

This week, we ask you what you think should move into a property that was recently placed on the market: Park Sports Bar & Restaurant, at 30 S. Park St. 

The bar has had its fair share of problems in the past, and residents have repeatedly cited late-night noise violations, fighting and other nuisances at the bar. 

Most recently, the bar's liquor license was suspended for 30 days beginning on Oct. 15. The owner, Jeff Melnikoff, pleaded no contest before the Alcoholic Beverages Control Board on Oct. 11 to three charges of excessive noise, fighting outside the bar, and serving too much alcohol to a patron. 

Last week, Melnikoff said he decided to keep the bar closed until the end of the suspension. 

However, a for sale sign was placed in the bar's window at the start of this week.  

The bar is situated on one of the most popular corners in Montclair's business district. Adjacent to the well-traveled Church Street, the location is also located at the foot of the newest capital project in Montclair: the redesign of South Park Street. 

So what do you think should move in, Montclair? Another bar? Another liquor store? A restaurant? A clothing store?
