$1M Bail Held for Man Accused of Beating, Killing Girlfriend's Son, 3

A Superior Court Judge Monday held the bail at $1 million with no 10-percent option for a man accused of beating and killing a three-year-old boy in a Morris County hotel.

Maurice Pearson, 28, remains imprisoned at the Morris County Correctional Facility after a judge refused to lower his bail when prosecutors said he posed a flight risk and stated he had six other prior convictions, nj.com reported.

On Friday, April 10, police responded to the Knights Inn Hotel on Route 46 in Montville for a report of a person choking, Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp previously announced.

When police arrived, they found Pearson and the woman he was romantically involved with, along with her three-year-old son. Knapp said the woman and boy were both assaulted and hospitalized.

While hospitalized, the three-year-old boy died as a result of his injuries, and Pearson’s charges were upgraded from assault to murder.

The boy has been identified as Ty’mil Solomon, and his mother has been identified as Nicole Reagan, nj.com reported.

Pearson allegedly hit Solomon with a belt after the child wet himself in the hotel room, the report said.

Prosecutors said Pearson, at the time of his arrest, provided false information to police, the report said, and had at least four children with different women in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
