2 Dogs, 3 Cats Rescued From Morris County Apartment Fire, Cops Say

Two residents were displaced as a result of the blaze, police report.

Two residents and their pets were displaced Thursday after a fire tore through a Mt. Olive apartment, but no one was injured, police said.

At 12:43 p.m. Thursday Mt. Olive Police received a report of a smoke condition coming from an apartment at Oakwood Village on Route 206, Officer Michael Russell said.

Officers arrived on scene and found a heavy smoke condition coming from the apartment and learned there were no residents inside, but two dogs and three cats were still in the home, Russell said.

Flanders and Budd Lake firefighters arrived on scene and gained entry to the apartment, and were able to extinguish the fire while rescuing the two dogs and three cats, Russell said.

The apartment was deemed uninhabitable and the residents were assisted by the Northern Chapter of the American Red Cross. The cause of fire is under investigation by the Mt. Olive police and Mt. Olive Fire Marshall’s Office.
