MONTVILLE, NJ— 34 cats were rescued from a hoarding situation in Montville, and one has already found a new family.

The cats were rescued by Montville Animal Control and local officials, after receiving reports of the cats on Jan. 21, the Montville Animal Shelter said.

Conditions were "deplorable," the shelter said. Litter boxes had become too full to use, so the cats were defecating throughout the house.

16 of the cats were returned to the shelters they were originally adopted from. Most of the cats needed some type of medical care, including screenings, parasite treatments, and dental work. One cat needs to be neutered, and all the cats will receive vaccinations, according to the shelter.

So far, one cat has found her new home. Gigi, pictured below, was adopted by a family in New York on Valentine's Day, who will continue to provide her medical care.
