Be Aware of Severe Contact Lens Related Problems

Nearly 40 million people wear contacts these days. Be aware of some serious problems if you're not careful.

Nearly 40 million people wear contact lenses to see better these days and there are many new options from disposables lenses to extended wear lenses. But even with all this new technology eye doctors say they continue to treat many of the old problems from patients wearing "Next Generation Lenses". These kinds of problems can really place your eyesight in jeopardy.

It only takes one day, one bad event, where bacteria gets under a lens, you are not aware of it until it is too late. If you are not careful, you risk the chance of causing permanent eye damage. It can happen to anyone. Those who stretch out their prescriptions are most at risk. The longer contacts are worn, the more likely trouble can occur on the eye. Patients usually do not realize there is a problem until it is too late.

While contact lenses are FDA-approved and considered safe, even contact lenses designed for long-term use can increase your chances of a problem. Every day you sleep in a lens, there is a higher risk.
