Former Morris Scout Leader 'Groomed' Teen Boys Before Sex Assaults

State looking to introduce evidence not associated with charges against Parsippany man, report says.

The state of New Jersey is seeking to include decades-old evidence against a Morris Plains man and former Parsippany Boy Scout leader accused of sexually assaulting three teen boys in his home during the 1990s.

According to nj.com, Stephen Corcoran, now 47, “groomed” the teens by showing them pornography, giving them alcohol, and masturbating to make them feel more comfortable in performing sexual acts with him both in his home and on camping trips.

Corcoran was initially arrested in January 2012 and charged with distribution of child pornography and possession of child pornography. At the time of his arrest, Corcoran was listed as an assistant scout master with Troop 173, which serves Parsippany.

At pre-trial hearings this week, the state is seeking to include evidence not related to charges against Corcoran, or charges that fall within the statute of limitations, the report said. All three of Corcoran’s victims have testified this week. The evidence, according to the prosecution, is “intrinsic” to the case, the report said.

Judge Robert Gilson is expected to make a ruling on inclusion of the evidence in the coming weeks, the report said. A pre-trial conference is scheduled for Oct. 15.
