Parsippany’s own Joe Conte appeared at a homecoming, of sorts, performing at Suppa’s on Saturday.
The standup comedian recorded his first DVD and headlined a show sponsored by J & J Comedy. Comedian Joe Fernandes hosted as comedian and actor Andy Hayward opened the show.
Fernandes’s style was steeped in observational humor, including talks about financial recession.

Hayward, who regularly performs at Dangerfield’s in New York City, joked about his relationship status.

“I’m not married,” he said. “I’ve never been married, but I’m only 48 and I don’t want to rush into anything.”
Despite the well-recieved opening acts, the night belonged to Conte. His humor was operational and largly based in pop culture, with jokes ranging from riffs on “Jersey Shore” to commentary on Boston accents.
He alsotook aim at his father, a straight from Italy immigrant, and laughed at his father’s mispronunciation of the President of the United States.
“Morakema Bamboo,” Conte said. “I was on the floor in tears.”
Conte saved most of the venom for himself admitting to have “zero confidence.”
“I’ve been single most of my life,” he explained. He said the longest relationship he had been in was 18 months. “She ruined it by coming out of her coma.”
Conte’s performance was recorded for his yet-to-be-released DVD. Check out Conte’s site here.
