Montville High School Senior Graduates From State Trooper Youth Program
One of 98 graduates from across the state.

Montville High School senior John Stretavski III, along with 97 other high school seniors from across the state, completed the a week long, police-oriented educational program as part of the 87th New Jersey State Police Trooper Youth Week training class.
"This experience serves as an important stepping-stone to a career in law enforcement, or any other career choice they may pursue," first assistant Attorney General Phillip Kwon said in a release. "We commend them for completing the training and preparing themselves to become the future leaders of our state."
According to the release, the program, which is sponsored by the state department of law & public safety and the state police, consists of activates that simulate the actual police recruit training experience, such as reveille, roll call, academic classes, physical challenges and police field exercises.

"The training and discipline the participants in this program received gives them a glimpse into the rigorous training and commitment it takes to becomes a law enforcement officer, specifically a New Jersey State Trooper," Lieutenant Colonel Jerome Hatfield said in a release. "We have seen it have a profound impact on their lives and prepare them for their future endeavors."
The program included four week-long classes: the 84th, 85th, 86th and 87th. Stretaviski, who participated in the 87th class, which ran from August 9 to August 13, is the only Montville resident to graduate in this year's program.

According to the state police office, this program has been operating since 1965.
