Montville Boy Strikes Out Cancer, Raises $5K With Autographed Ball Campaign

Danny Fariello is helping kids at Morristown Medical Center battle the disease with messages of inspiration.

While Danny Fariello is doing his part to strike out cancer, he’s also hitting a homerun for kids who are fighting the disease at Morristown Medical Center.

The Montville student spent this spring raising money for pediatric cancer research by selling baseballs that could be autographed with inspirational messages for children with the disease.

Fariello set out to sell 140 baseballs as part of the NVRQT (Never Quit) campaign, started by Boston Red Sox pitcher Jon Lester, a cancer survivor.

But Fariello knocked it out of the park. He ended up selling 230 balls that were autographed with messages of inspirational sayings, like “Stay sweet, stay strong,” and “Be Brave! Be Strong!”

The project raised nearly $5,000 to put toward pediatric cancer research, and Fariello was scheduled to hand deliver the balls to more than 100 children at Morristown Medical Center on Monday, June 9.

Fariello doesn’t want to stop here, though, as he hopes to spread the project to children his age in neighboring towns who can start their own campaigns.

By going to bat for peers battling cancer, Fariello has hit a grand slam.
