Geisinger was one of nine police officers honored last month by the Student Council of Woodmont Elementary School in Pine Brook.
The council presented nine police officers, from squads throughout the state, with original art work, certificates of thanks and thank you notes, according to a release from the school.
The gifts were presented at Woodmont’s annual Patriots Day assembly on Sept. 12. Woodmont, one of five elementary schools in the Montville Township Public Schools district, honored police officers and their families.
The original artwork featured the Dove of Peace painted in red, white and blue on canvas. During the ceremony, fifth grade Student Council representatives, draped in red, white and blue, gave presentations on peace, patriotism and police officers before an audience of students and teachers dressed in the colors of the American flag.
“Patriotism is a very important quality at Woodmont Elementary School,” Principal Dominic Esposito told the students. “Today we get to honor a very special group of individuals: Our police officers.”
At the conclusion of the event, the officers were greeted by each student as he or she exited on the way back to class. Geisinger attended the event with his fourth-grade son.
