The Montville Recreation Department will be offering two weeks of Pony Grooming & Riding Programs for Ages 7 to 13 (Classes will be broken down according to age & experience).
This unique 4-day program provides an exciting and inexpensive hands-on introduction to the wonderful world of equines in a fun-filled and supportive atmosphere. PonyShare uses camp-trained ponies and cobs, smaller and easier to handle than their larger equine counterparts. Small groups of 4-5 children are formed according to age and prior experience—if any. After reviewing safety rules, materials previously covered and learning new subject matter, participants are assigned their size-related pony or cob and each small group works under the tutelage of a qualified and motivated Counselor. Some of the horsemanship matters covered include: Safety on and around the horses, Basic Anatomy, Equine Senses & Body Language, Grooming, The Tack and Harness, English & Western styles, Barn Management and Careers in the Industry. Participants also get to ride or drive their charges for about 20 minutes during each Session. This program enhances team work, self-esteem and camaraderie while helping develop a genuine appreciation and respect for the animals. Course materials are provided. Repeat participants are welcomed as PonyShare constantly introduces new games, challenges and Course Materials. A winner by many...furlongs, this program tends to book early. Space is limited! Register ASAP! CHILDREN should DRESS APPROPRIATELY for weather conditions & are encouraged to bring STRONG HIKING SHOES, JEANS/SWEAT PANTS, A BICYCLE HELMET, FLUIDS and on the last day a CUT CARROT or APPLE with them.
The camps will be taking place at the Camp Dawson Park located at 80 Jacksonville Road in Towaco.

Session # 1 is Monday through Thursday: June 27, 28, 29 & 30 from 4:45pm to 6:45pm. The cost of the program is $240.00 per person for the 4 day camp.

Session # 2 is Monday through Thursday: August 8, 9, 10 & 11 from 10:45am to 12:45pm. The cost of the program is $240.00 per person for the 4 day camp.
Session # 3 is Monday through Thursday: August 22, 23, 24 & 25 from 10:45am to 12:45pm. The cost of the program is $240.00 per person for the 4 day camp.
