Montville Recreation Department

The Montville Recreation Department will be offering Summer Academy Classes for students Entering the 5th through 8th Grades in September 2015 including: Mathology, Writing & Reading Literacy and/or Organization & Study Skills,.

Class descriptions are as follows:

MATHOLOGY: Depending upon your child’s needs, this course will cover reinforcement of basic math skills through pre-algebra. If you would like to have particular skills covered, please provide your child with a note of the skills/topics that you want him/her to cover.

WRITING & READING LITERACY: This course will provide strategies for comprehending and responding to a variety of literary genre, vocabulary development, and writing styles. Focus will be on PARCC prep.

ORGANIZATION and STUDY SKILLS: This course will provide the student with the necessary tools to become a more active and productive learner. Some of the topics covered will be: Test Taking Skills, Organizational Skills, Note Taking, Following Directions, Listening Skills, Time Management/Goal Setting and Reading in Content Areas.

Classes are offered Monday through Friday for 1 hour of instruction per day for a one week period.

Dates include the choice of one week sessions: July 6-10 and/or July 13-17 and/or July 20-24 and/or July 27-31.

Times offered are as follows: Mathology from 9:00am to 10:00am, Writing & Reading Literacy from 10:05am to 11:05am, and/or Organization and Study Skills from 11:10am to 12:10pm.

Classes will meet in the air conditioned Lazar Middle School Library located at 123 Change Bridge Road in Montville.

Program Teachers include: Tom Vila (Math), Jacki Keiser (Writing), & Michele Ventricelli (Study Skills).

The cost of the program is $75.00 per one week session and $60.00 for any additional classes and/or sessions per person.
