Montville Recreation Department - Math Classes

Math Classes - Grades 3-5 & 6-8

The Montville Recreation Department will be sponsoring MATH CLASSES for Grades 3-5 and Grades 6-8.

Classes will take place at the Academic Excellence Center, 2 Change Bridge Rd, Suite 203 in Montville

Grades 3 to 5 - In this accelerated 6 week program, begins with addition, subtraction, multiplication, fractions, decimals, and percents. Students then progress into general strategies for solving problems that invoice a wide range of mathematical concepts. Students will use varied approaches such as drawing diagrams and graphing, making lists, eliminating unreasonable possibilities, identifying patterns, guessing and checking, and manipulating variables. By the end of the program students will develop better critical thinking and creative problem solving skills in addition to strengthening their mathematical-reasoning abilities.

Classes will take place on Mondays: April 13, 20, 27, May 4, 11 & 18 from 4:30pm to 5:15pm and/or Tuesdays: April 14, 21, 28, May 5, 12 & 19 from 5:30pm to 6:15pm.

Grades 6 to 8 - In this accelerated 6 week program, begins with addition, subtraction, multiplication, fractions, decimals, and percents. The class then progresses through intuitive geometry, Pre-Algebra and Algebra I in subsequent sessions. Students will be introduced to the algebra concepts of integers, equations, inequalities, and exponents; there is also a unit on informal geometry. In the Algebra I classes students will learn about one and two variables through the solution of quadratic equations by factoring, completing the square, and by formula. This program will stress the structure and logical development of mathematics.

Classes will take place on Mondays: April 13, 20, 27, May 4, 11 & 18 from 5:30pm to 6:15pm and/or Tuesdays: April 14, 21, 28, May 5, 12 & 19 from 4:30pm to 5:15pm.

The cost of the program is $150.00 per person per 6 (six) week session.
