Montville Township Public Schools awarded 1st Place Social Media Award by NJSPRA
The Morris County district received PR award for outstanding social media practices. The district competed against other NJ public schools.
Montville Township Public Schools received the First Place Social Media Award from the New Jersey School Public Relations Association (NJSPRA). The Montville district competed with public schools throughout the state.
Launched in March of 2014, the use of Social Media in Montville Township Public Schools has improved communication and community involvement among the district’s immediate stakeholders as well as throughout the greater community. The district’s Facebook site is Montville Township Public Schools, and the Twitter feed is @MontvilleTwpSch.
“Social media provides the district with the means of immediate communication for breaking news, important announcements, and the many exciting educational programs that take place daily during the school year and throughout the summer,” said District Communications Officer, Susan Marinello.

Marinello’s position was created in January 2014 to launch social media and increase communication and community involvement with students, staff and the Montville community.
The approach to rolling out Montville Township Public Schools’ Twitter and Facebook accounts began with a concentrated initiative to populate the district’s established website, www.montville.net, with more news and information.

“Communication is a district priority. We are committed to investigating new, better and additional ways to bring information to the community,” Marinello explained.
Since increasing news on the district’s website, both social media and traditional media coverage has increased.
“We are focusing on consistently letting the community know what is going on in Montville Township Public Schools,” Marinello said. “We provide news two to three times each week to newspapers, television and radio. Our website, Montville.net, is regularly updated, and our social media platforms reflect all of that coverage and more.”
Thanks to a growing following, Montville’s Twitter and Facebook accounts have helped the 4,000-student district keep the community informed and involved. Over the past eighteen months, 680 Facebook Friends and 370 Twitter Followers have organically come to rely on the district’s social media pages for information.
“All of the district news and announcements are posted there,” Marinello noted. “Therefore we encourage the entire community to Like and Follow us on Facebook and Twitter.”
Montville’s on-line platforms are designed to help keep parents, teachers, students and the community updated on the many events and accomplishments that take place daily in Montville Township’s seven public schools.
“Students and teachers are also asking for the introduction of additional social media platforms such as Instagram and more YouTube channels,” noted Marinello. ““There are many great things happening in education every day in Montville Township Public Schools. Things that parents, grandparents, the community, and alumni enjoy learning about.”
Montville Township High School also has a Twitter feed at @MustangsMTHS.
NJSPRA presented its public relations awards on June 5, 2015 at Rowan University in in Glassboro, New Jersey.
