Montville Track Club Excels at Regionals

Nine athletes on the club team qualified for the national meet.

The Montville Track Club Rebels completed their season with nine athletes qualifying for the National Championship Meet in Myrtle Beach in December, club director Angelo Harasts announced.

The club team had 19 athletes run in the Region 2 Cross Country Championship held at Deerpath Park in Flemington. The meet drew athletes from Connecticut to Delaware who had competed in their respective states to qualify for the meet.

The team ran 18 personal bests on a muddy and windy day, and a record nine athletes qualified for the National Championship Meet, Harasts said.

The following athletes qualified for the National Championship:

  • 7-8 Age Division competed in the 2k distance: Olivia De Filippo (19th), and Dennis Lucy (13th)
  • 9-10 Age Division competed in the 3k distance: Samantha Savercool (18th)
  • 11-12 Age Division competed in the 3k course: Claire Jones (12th), Grant Shine (16th) and Jacob Hiller (2nd)
  • 13-14 Age Division competed in the 4k course: Cassandra Harasts (5th), Erin Sanzone (8th), Jenks Hehmeyer (18th).
