Montville Wrestling Hopes to Continue Success

Mustangs will ride the strength of a talented junior class.

The  is hoping to replicate its 2010-11 campaign in which it won the district tournament for the third straight year, as well as the .

They are scheduled to compete in the Morris Knolls Tournament at 9 a.m. Saturday at Morris Knolls High School.

OVERVIEW
The Mustangs graduated some of the most successful wrestlers in program history, but have a talented class of juniors that are expected to rack up some wins this season. The Mustangs will not have an easy schedule, however; conference play has not gotten any easier, and Montville has added tough Ocean County opponents such as Ocean and Toms River South.

LAST SEASON'S RESULTS
Montville finished 14-7, highlighted by the aforementioned tournament victories. The Mustangs also made it all the way to the NJSIAA North I, Group III State Sectional Finals before falling to High Point.

  • Parker Meytrott, 152/160 lbs. (Jr.)—After winning the district championship and a match in Atlantic City last year, Meytrott returns with more success in store.
  • Nick Lizza, 113 lbs. (So.)—Lizza after winning 31 matches as a freshman.
  • Corey Forlenza, 120 lbs. (Sr.)—Forlenza has three years of varsity experience, and the seasoned veteran looks to end his high school career with a bang.

THEY'LL MISS

  • Taylor Bernstein, 215 lbs/HWT—Bernstein has one of the most successful seasons in Mustangs history, posting 40 wins (27 pins) and finishing third in the state in his weight class.
  • Mike Intile, 152 lbs.—Intile graduated with 118 wins—most all-time for the Mustangs.
  • Rob Glasser, 125 lbs.—Glasser finished his senior year with a Morris County Championship and a regional tournament berth.
