Montville Mustangs Falter in Morris County Softball Tourney Final
Montville's early lead over Whippany Park did not last.
The Montville High School girls softball team faced the Whippany Park Wildcats Tuesday evening at Peterson Field in Rockaway for the Morris County Tournament Championship. The Mustangs were unable to stop Whippany Park and their onslaught.
Montville jumped out to an early two run lead in the first inning. Although the Mustangs struck out the side in the first, Whippany Park exploded in the 2nd inning with nine runs putting Montville back on their heels. Whippany Park added two more runs in the 4th on a two run home run from Jenn Sanislo, the Wildcats pitcher and tournament MVP.
Montville was unable to mount any offense until the 5th inning when an error, a walk and a fielder's choice put two base runners on the bags. But two balls hit directly to the Wildcat's shortstop put an end to the effort.

In the bottom of the 5th inning, Whippany Park added another run ending the game by the 10 run rule, 12-2.
"Whippany Park is an excellent team," said Montville head coach John Immediato. "They are well coached and they played really well tonight. Unfortunately, we didn't play really well tonight. We are a much better team than what we showed. We will rebound from this and look forward to the states."
