Motville: Superintendent Statement On Racism

As superintendent of the Montville Township Public Schools, I feel that the events of the past week demand a reaffirmation of the policy and practice of our district and the values that we have embraced for our school community.

Our district curriculum is designed to eliminate discrimination, promote mutual acceptance and respect among students, and enable students to interact effectively with others, regardless of race, color, creed, religion, national origin, ancestry, age, marital status, affectation or sexual orientation, gender, gender identity or expression, socioeconomic status, or disability.

When I joined the district almost five years ago, the community was reacting to an expression of anti-Semitism in a quote printed in the high school yearbook. In my first month here in Montville, I laid the foundation for the creation of the OneMontville organization. Over the past five years, this group has embraced the mission of creating and promoting a climate of acceptance, inclusion and kindness which teaches and celebrates respect for one another by embracing and being enriched by the diversity that comprises the Montville Township Community. OneMontville’s objective is to facilitate Acceptance, Respect, and Kindness.

These are my own personal beliefs and those which the district stands for as well. We reject racism in all forms and connotations. We do our best to educate our students so that racism may ultimately be eradicated. It has no place in our schools, our community, or anywhere in our world.
