Montville High School Ceramics Exhibition Is Tonight

Dozens of artists from area schools will display their work. Scholarships to be awarded.

Montville Township High School will host MUDD 2016, the fourth annual All Ceramics Invitational Exhibition, on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.. The event will be held in the newly renovated MTHS Media Center.

Over thirty ceramic pieces by extraordinary student artists will be on exhibit at MUDD 2016. More than two dozen artists from more than twelve area high schools will compete for top prizes in a variety of categories.

The work will be judged in four categories, Hand built Functional, Hand built Sculptural, Wheel Thrown Functional and Wheel Thrown Sculptural, and 1st, 2nd, 3rd & Honorable Mention will be awarded in each category. Prizes in categories such as Best of Show will also be awarded.

More than a dozen schools will each submit up to eight pieces of student ceramics work for judging and exhibition at MUDD 2016.

All entries will be judged by ceramics professors from fine arts schools and colleges. This year’s judges will include representatives from Kean University, Monmouth University, The Montclair Museum, Peters Valley School of Craft, Rowan University, SUNY New Paltz, Syracuse University and Tyler School of Art at Temple University.

In addition to the competition, all area student artists are encouraged to bring portfolios and meet with university representatives. In past years as much as $89,000 worth of scholarships have been awarded to the top artists competing at this event.

Schools currently scheduled to participate include: Montville Township High School, Bergenfield High School, High Point Regional High School, Kittatinny Regional High School, Northern Highlands Regional High School, Paramus High School, Park Ridge High School, Pascack Valley Regional High School, Randolph High School, Roxbury High School, Vernon High School, Walkill Valley Regional High School and Westwood Regional High School.

Participating teachers from each school represented at MUDD 2016 are also asked to submit a piece of their own work for display only.

MUDD’s creator and organizer, Sharon Pflug-Moench, is a fine arts instructor at MTHS. Three of her own pieces will be raffled at MUDD 2016. Chances for the raffle are $1.00, and proceeds will help defray the costs of hosting MUDD 2016, the 4th Annual All Ceramics Invitational Exhibition. Raffle tickets can be purchased at MUDD 2016, in advance at the MTHS main office or by contacting sharon.pflugmoench@montville.net by midnight March 7. The raffle will be drawn at 7:30 PM on Tuesday. March 8, during the MUDD 2016 event.

MUDD 2016, the 4th Annual All Ceramics Invitational Exhibition will be held on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at 6:30PM in newly renovated MTHS Media Center. Awards will be presented at 7PM. MTHS is located at 100 Horseneck Road in Montville, New Jersey. Admission is FREE and open to all members of the public. Everyone is encouraged to attend.
