Towaco's 'Housewife' Seen as a Relatable Star

Many locals know TV star for financial troubles.

With episode nine of the second season of The Real Housewives of New Jersey ending June 28 with a confrontation between Towaco resident Teresa Guidice and fellow housewife Danielle Staub, fans of the show are still waiting to find out why the police were called.

The two have feuded in the past, perhaps most notoriously during season one, when a confrontation between the pair resulted in Guidice flipping a table over at a party, after Staub confronted her about rumors the housewives were sharing about Staub. The rumors were based on a book, "A Cop Without a Badge," in which details of Staub's past are revealed.

But despite the drama between Guidice and Staub, New Jersey residents watching the show seem to maintain a positive attitude towards Guidice.

"She is the one I know barely anything about but I love her because she is hysterical," said Jaime Paulhamus, 24, Ringwood. "I absolutely love the show, it is very entertaining. I really like Teresa's family. She is probably the most entertaining out of all the housewives because she is so open with what she feels."

Guidice, 38 was born in Paterson and is married to childhood friend Joe Guidice. She has four daughters, Gia, Gabriella, Milaninia, and Audrianna, with whom Guidice was pregnant during the reunion episode of season one. Some residents seem to remember Guidice for her relationship with her family. Guidice's parents were both immigrants from Italy. Middlesex Borough resident Lisa Guiliano said she can relate to coming from a large Italian family.

"Teresa's family traditions that have been past down from her elders is an awesome thing to share with your children," Guiliano said.

Both Guiliano and her sister watch the show and talk about it the next day. As a single mother, Guiliano said she does not have the material things the Guidice family has but can relate to the closeness of the family.

Guidice and her family also made headlines recently, when the filed for bankruptcy, reportedly owing nearly $11 million. Guidice told the Daily News her family had to file for bankruptcy after many of her husband's real estate ventures failed in the struggling economy.

Paulhamus said she can understand the family's financial trouble.

"I think every family can kind of relate to the financial troubles the family has gotten into because most families do have some sort of debt but I don't think many families have ever let it get as bad," she said.
