Taste of Montville Event Brings Community Together

Montville Township, NJ - On Tuesday October 16th, the Kiwanis Club held the first annual Taste of Montville Event at Montville Township High School. There were up to ten local restaurants that catered for the attendees, each with their own table and dishes for people to sample.

Red Barn, Bonefish Grill, Asian Kawa, Gencarelli’s, China Pavilion and Boonton Bagels were just a few among the many businesses that participated in this event. Members of the MTHS Key Club volunteered at the event to help serve food to those who attended. Groups of members were stationed at each table to help prepare the food being brought in by the restaurants. These students also helped decorate the cafeteria for the event and also volunteered for set up and clean up from 5 to 9 pm.

The Key Club is heavily involved with the Kiwanis Club and often works alongside adult volunteers to raise money in local fundraisers. Cynthia Zhu, President of the MTHS Key Club stated, “We had a great time helping out at Taste of Montville. We met people from around town, served others, and worked together. Over 40 members participated in the event. One of our club goals this year is to get more involved in our community, and Taste of Montville was the perfect start.”

The admission fee for the occasion was $15 in advance and $20 at the door, with all of the proceeds going to the Kiwanis Club of Montville. This fundraiser gave the local eateries of Montville a chance to offer a taste of their menus to local residents, while helping the area charity, which also sponsors the Montville Food Pantry.

The MTHS cafeteria was filled with Montville residents and guests from its 6 pm start time to its 9 pm end time. Members of the community got to mingle with other residents as well as people from other towns, all while thoroughly enjoying the food and atmosphere. State Assemblyman Jay Webber (R-26th) even made an appearance at the event to experience the culinary options that Montville has to offer. Teachers from Montville Township High School also attended the event to get involved in the community and enjoy all of the varieties of food for a good cause.

MTHS History Teacher Scott Riotto stated, “The food was delicious; I sampled almost everything! And it was great to see so many students volunteering at the event. It was well worth the $15 advance ticket sale price.”
