Teacher Accidentally Causes Montville Township HS to go into Lockdown

The teacher accidentally pressed a panic button device worn around necks of district teachers. Police still investigated.

Montville Township High School went into lockdown Friday morning after a teacher accidentally pressed a panic button device.

The teacher accidentally set off the device at 10:51 a.m. Friday, according to NJ.com.

Sue Marinello, the Montville Township School District spokesperson, told NJ.com that teachers in the township wear a device around their necks that can be activated by using two fingers to alert authorities of a threat.

Police were told the alert was accidental but still decided to search each room in the building. Students were locked in the same classroom they were in when the alert went off.

NJ.com also reported rumors of a man with a gun in the vicinity of Montville Township High School on social media were false.
