27 Fired Moorestown School District Janitors Get Their Jobs Back
The agreement comes after 10 months of disagreement between the workers and Healthcare Service Group, according to a press release.
MOORESTOWN, NJ — More than two dozen school janitors in the Moorestown School District were given their jobs back after a 10-month battle with the company that had let them go, according to Service Employees International Union.

"We are relieved to know that we have reached a settlement. The past 10 months have been challenging for all of us," Luz Ortega, a janitorial worker at Moorestown School District, said in a press release.

"I do not think we ever recovered from the way we were fired by [Healthcare Service Group]," Ortega continued. "We look forward to being back at work, taking care the schools where Moorestown’s children learn. Once our wages and health care are restored, we will once again be able to care for our families."
Ortega and 26 other Moorestown School District janitors had lost their jobs on July 1, after the Moorestown School District Board of Education awarded the janitorial contract to Healthcare Services Group due to their union affiliation, according to a press release. Earlier this year, the 4th region of the National Labor Relations Board had taken on the employees' case. The agreement was reached prior to the commencement of a trial, according to the press release.
