MARLTON, NJ — June 10 is now officially "Christina Grimmie Day" in the Garden State.
Governor Mikie Sherrill signed the bipartisan Joint Resolution SJR137 into law in honor of the Cherokee High School alum who was killed by a gunman after a concert 10 years ago.
"Some voices never fade...the annual observance honors Christina's remarkable musical career, celebrates the lasting impact she had on fans around the world, and recognizes the work of the Christina Grimmie Foundation," New Jersey Assembly Democrats said in response to the new law.
After building an audience on YouTube while performing at her home in Evesham Township, she went on to try out for NBC's "The Voice" and finished in the top three finalists in 2014.

Grimmie also performed on "Ellen" and "Dancing with the Stars" along her rise to fame.
"Not only was Christina Grimmie an incredibly gifted artist, she was a South Jersey native whose kindness, talent, and passion for music touched millions around the world," said Latham Tiver (R-Atlantic, Burlington). "Christina's story continues to inspire young artists everywhere."
Tiver co-sponsored the resolution with Senator Troy Singleton (D-Burlington).
"Honoring Christina isn't a political issue," said Tiver after introducing the bill. "It's a New Jersey issue."
On June 10, 2016, she was signing autographs after a show in Florida when Kevin Loible shot the popstar before turning the gun and killing himself.
In the years following her death, Christina's family continues to honor her legacy through the "Christina Grimmie Foundation."
The group works to support individuals and families who face sudden hardships and crises associated with gun violence.
