Baker Bears Show Their Love of Science

Polymers. Greenhouses. Cerebellums. Germs. Bacteria. Buoyancy. Reflexes. Micro-Agronomy. These are just a few of the scientific terms you would have heard if you walked down the halls of Baker School on Feb. 7 as Baker celebrated its annual Science Day.

Parent volunteers took time out from their jobs in the fields of science and technology to present hands-on activities for each class. The yearly event was chaired by Mrs. Kathy Swanik and Mrs. Lucille Shenot.

The celebration began on Feb. 6 with the highly motivating Sciencetellers assembly, which was provided by Home and School. Mrs. Nichols, the Challenge teacher, engaged first-, second- and third-grade students in hands-on experiments where they made slime, bubble gum and lava lamps!

Also, all week long, children were encouraged to select books from the Science Collection display in the library prepared by librarian Ann Ferruggia.

Who knows, the next great scientist could be a Baker Bear!
