This year’s Arbor Day Celebration was held at the Perkins Center for the Arts. A ceremony was held at 10 AM, with a welcome from Jean Pollock, Moorestown Garden Club President. A Proclamation was presented by Mayor Lisa Petriello. Dave Shill, representing the Moorestown Improvement Association, gave a History of Arbor Day and presented a check to Mayor Petriello to purchase more trees. An award was presented by Karen Chigounis, Appearance Committee Chair, to the Tree Planting and Preservation Committee, accepted by John Gibson, Tree Committee Chair for the many volunteer hours spent doing tree pruning to improve the appearance of our street trees . John Gibson also spoke about our Tree City USA participation.
This year four trees were planted at the Perkins Arboretium: a Rising Sun Redbud donated by Perkins in honor of Karen Chigounis; a Pink Dogwood donated by Councilwoman Victoria and Vinny Napolitano family to celebrate Elliot’s Birthday; a White Dogwood donated in remembrance of Robert Lieberman; and a Hardy Rubber Tree as our Arbor Day Tree.
More than 500 tree saplings, in thirteen different varieties, were distributed to the public. Remaining saplings will be available to the public at the Moorestown Library.
