MEDFORD, NJ — Multiple law enforcement agencies across South Jersey have alerted their residents to a fake court notice scam going around right now in the region.

The notes are being sent by text messages and reference items like "Notice of Hearing-Traffic Violation/Toll Violation."

Some may include a QR code requiring payment to avoid a court action.

Some indicators of fake summons include no name of who the summons has been issued, no vehicle description, no plate number, or no date of the alleged violation.

No personal information should ever be given in response to these types of messages.

If you receive a message like this, do not respond, verify the notices through an official court or county website, and report it as spam on your phone, along with blocking the number.

Courts do not send summonses out via text messages, Medford Police added.
