MOORESTOWN, NJ — Bethel AME Church is pleased to welcome home award-winning journalist and Moorestown native Linsey Davis as the special guest speaker for its annual Mother’s Day Service on Sunday, May 10, 2026, at 10:30 a.m.
The service will take place at Bethel AME Church, located at Bethel AME Church.
Davis, a two-time Emmy Award-winning journalist, currently anchors “World News Tonight” Sunday and “ABC News Live Prime.” A proud daughter of Moorestown and lifelong member of the Bethel family, Davis grew up in the church and remains a source of inspiration to many throughout the community.
“Welcoming Linsey home to Bethel for Mother’s Day is a special moment for our congregation and the greater Moorestown community,” said Rev. Howard M. Jenkins, Jr., pastor of Bethel AME Church. “Her accomplishments, faith, and commitment to excellence continue to inspire young people and families alike.”
The Mother’s Day celebration will honor mothers, grandmothers, and women of faith while also highlighting the importance of family, community, and spiritual encouragement.

Join us for a free lecture “Why We Walk” at the Historic Shipman Mansion at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, May 13. Guests who would like a docent‑guided tour of the mansion should arrive by 6:00 PM.This presentation will be made by Deborah Richardson Price who serves as the Executive Director and President of the Underground Railroad Museum of Burlington County. The talk is inspired by the mission of the Underground Railroad Museum of Burlington County. It is an invitation to take an iconic walk-through historical moment in time, moments that create a bridge enabling listeners to cross into insight and understanding, if only for a moment. It is a walk shaped by reflections and awareness of his stories, her stories, and their stories, stories that give voice to the unknown, the unarchived, and the truths that history has too often silenced. This journey asks us to “walk with purpose.” Through themes of injustice, freedom, identity, and voice, it challenges assumptions and opens pathways to empathy, courage, and deeper understanding. Each historical timeline becomes a window into lived experience, reminding us that storytelling is not only remembrance—it is an act of liberation.Light refreshments will be available during the event. Admission is free, though donations are gratefully accepted and directly support the ongoing restoration of the Historic Shipman Mansion. Recent restoration efforts have included a full exterior repainting and significant wood‑repair work, and community contributions help sustain these improvements. Her leadership is grounded in decades of experience in banking regulatory compliance, governance, and community engagement across the New York metropolitan area.Her service extends across civic, national, and international platforms. She has held leadership roles with the Rotary Club of West Jersey, founded the Seeds Foundation, and serves on boards including World of Money and Education Africa. Her global outreach includes collaboration with the Nnabagereka Development Foundation in Uganda and engagement with leaders across business, faith, civil rights, and international development. Moorestown Historical Society Celebrates Community’s Role in 1776

On May 15 and 16, the Historical Society of Moorestown will celebrate America’s 250th birthday and Moorestown’s role in the events of 1776 with three special events in the township. We invite your coverage in advance and as the events unfold.
Meet George Washington and His Horse
3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Friday, May 15
Percheron Park
Main and High Streets

George Washington and his horse, Nelson, will be at Percheron Park – itself the site of a statue of another historic equine -- for a meet-and-greet and photos. Washington will be portrayed by John Koopman, who played the same role on the recent Ken Burns documentary, “The American Revolution.” There is no charge.

Gen. Washington, in the person of Mr. Koopman, will join guests for cocktails and a silent auction to support the Historical Society. A few uninvited guests in uniform may appear. The First Oval Office Project
10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 16

(Three blocks north of the corner of Main and Locust Streets.)

In cooperation with the Museum of the American Revolution in Philadelphia, a replica of Washington’s tent, which he used on the battlefield and in encampments, will come to Moorestown. Admission is free. 

Also participating in the event will be: 
<ul>
 <li>Justin Cherry of Halfcrown Bakery will build his oven at the park the night before and bake fresh bread throughout the day.</li>
 <li>Lauren Muney of Silhouettes by Hand, who will cut beautiful profiles.</li>
 <li>Re-enactors including the Sea Dogs, the First Battalion of New Jersey Volunteers, Ben Franklin, George and Martha Washington, and Betsy Ross.</li>
 <li>Double Nickel Brewery has brewed beer using Washington’s handwritten recipe and it will be for sale during the day. Other food trucks will be at the site as well.</li>
 <li>Three authors will sign books on local history, as well as history presentations, a poster contest, history presentations, and items for sale.</li>
 <li>The Armed Forces Heritage Museum will feature a display of the 10 Critical Events in New Jersey’s role in the Revolutionary War.</li>

Dr. Camilla Townsend, Board of Governors Distinguished Professor of History at Rutgers University, will be discussing her book On The Turtles Back: Stories The Lenape Told Their Grandchildren. Dr. Townsend’s specialty is Early Native American History and she is the author of several books on the subject.
This program is part of the Historical Society of Moorestown’s New Jersey History Speaks Lecture Series.

MOORESTOWN, NJ — The community is warmly invited to attend a Chicken &amp; Waffles Breakfast Fundraiser hosted by Bethel AME Church on Saturday, May 23, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon.
The event is part of the church’s Pentecost celebration weekend and will offer guests a morning of food, fellowship, and community spirit. All are welcome to attend.
The breakfast will be held at the church, located at 512 N. Church Street in Moorestown. Rev. Howard M. Jenkins, Jr. serves as Pastor.
