So you think you know Benjamin Franklin? All are invited to a free lecture about Benjamin Franklin hosted by the Shipman Mansion on September 16 at 7:00 PM. Free mansion tours starting at 6:00 PM.
We all think we know Benjamin Franklin, the inventor, the diplomat, the statesman. But before all that, Franklin was a tough, wily young entrepreneur making his way along the Delaware River and in Burlington City. This lecture uncovers the surprising, sometimes questionable tactics he used to get ahead long before the fame and reputation we usually remember. Prepare to be surprised by a side of Franklin that rarely appears in the history books.
Our presenter, Skip Arey is a retired college lecturer with an interest in early American history.
Light refreshments will be available during the event. Admission is free, though donations are gratefully accepted and directly support the ongoing restoration of the Historic Shipman Mansion. Recent restoration efforts have included a full exterior repainting and significant wood‑repair work, and community contributions help sustain these improvements.
